Privateers Build Early Lead, Defeat Islanders to Take Series

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers set the tone early building a sizable advantage out of the gate in a 14-6 win to close out the series against the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders on Sunday at Maestri Field.
 
DECISIONS
Kyle Khachadourian pitched into the seventh and earned the win for the Privateers. Sebastian Mejia took the loss for the Islanders.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Privateers got several big performances throughout the lineup on the day as they jumped out to a 5-0 lead through four inngs. New Orleans had home runs from Kasten Furr and Issac Williams among their 16 hits as a team on the afternoon.
 
UNO struck first in the opening frame on the first of four hits from Pearce Howard which scored Furr. New Orleans continued to pile on as they scored in seven of eight innings at the plate.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi got on the board with two runs in the fifth inning on an RBI single and an ensuing sac fly. However, Williams' home run not only answered those two runs but provided a third for the Privateers to go ahead 8-2.
 
The Islanders rallied back within four at 10-6 in the seventh inning. The resilient Privateers did not allow a second straight A&M-Corpus Christi comeback win to happen as they put up a four-spot in the eighth inning to close out the scoring. Williams had a two-run single and Howard followed with a two-run double as the rain continued to intensify by the end of the afternoon.
 
INSIDE THE BOX
Williams belted a three-run blast for his fourth homer of the season in the fifth and added the two-run hit to cap his 5-RBI performance at the plate.

Howard went 4-for-6 to cap a huge weekend as he went 11-for-15 with two homers and 11 RBIs in the three games. The senior also got to within two hits of tying Kevin McGann for the program's all-time hits record.
