Privateers Defeated by Nicholls in Series Opener

THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls Colonels (23-15, 10-6) took advantage of extra baserunners early and defeated the New Orleans Privateers (22-17, 8-8) by a score of 12-2 in eight innings at Didier Field on Friday night.

DECISIONS
Devin Desandro threw a complete game and allowed just one earned run with five strikeouts. 58 of his 91 pitches went for strikes. Tyler LeBlanc took his first loss of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Privateers got early baserunners in the first couple of innings but were only able to scratch across one run. Meanwhile, the Colonels took advantage of three errors and a pitching staff that walked 10 batters on the night.

The first three hitters in the order scored seven of the team's 12 runs and made the most of their eight hits on the evening. Nicholls guaranteed themselves to remain in a tie for first place in the conference standings while the Privateers are now two games out of the lead.

Connor Macip made his season debut and fired two scoreless innings. Tyler Bischke went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Miguel Useche went 1-for-4 with a run scored.

Kasten Furr and Andrew Guidry both reached base twice. Dylan Porter allowed one hit in 2.2 innings. It was the fourth time this season the Privateers had walked at least 10 batters.
