Mitchell Throws Complete Game, Privateers Top McNeese

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers hit four home runs on the day and got a complete game from Brandon Mitchell in an 11-2 win over the McNeese Cowboys on Saturday afternoon at Maestri Field.

DECISIONS
Mitchell induced 13 ground ball outs including four double plays while going for the first nine-inning complete game by a Privateer since Mar. 2021. Ty Abraham took the loss after allowing five runs in an inning.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Privateers wasted no time getting out to a big early lead. With the bases loaded, Miguel Useche doubled to deep center bringing in two runs. Two batters later, Andrew Guidry took one deep for his first homer as a Privateer to make it 5-0.

It set the stage for an offense that erupted, including two home runs by Issac Williams. Another home run came from Anthony Herron Jr., his sixth of the season. Eight of the nine starters for the Privateers collected a hit on the day.

The four double plays turned by the Privateers landed one shy of tying a single-game record, which was five (May 1996 vs. LSU).

Pearce Howard added to the early scoring when he singled through the right side of the infield. It was his 178th career RBI, which brought him within four of tying Leroy Weimer for fourth place on the program's all-time list.

INSIDE THE BOX
Useche landed a home run shy of the cycle and had two RBI. Herron was a triple short of the cycle and added two RBI and two runs. Kasten Furr and Amani Larry combined for four runs scored. Guidry had four RBI and Travis Gober went 2-for-5.

Mitchell threw 102 pitches in the complete game. Brad Burckel generated the only offense on the day with a two-run home run in the sixth. The rest of the lineup was limited to three hits on the contest.

NEXT UP
The Privateers will go for the series sweep on Sunday at 1 p.m.
