NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team closed out Southland play with a bang when they defeated the Southeastern Lady Lions 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at the University Tennis Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Privateers stayed hot to close out the conference slate with two wins on the week and a third place finish in the Southland.
It started in doubles when
Mar Gendra and
Estelle Vanthier dominated at flight three on their way to a 6-1 victory. At flight one,
Lina Hohnhold and
Salma Abdelrahim outlasted their opponents 7-5 at flight one to earn the doubles point.
In singles, the Privateers finished five of the six matches in straight sets. Hohnhold only lost one game and was the first off court at flight two.
Lea Alguacil only conceded four games at flight six in a straight set victory.
The match was officially clinched when
Ank Vullings won 6-3, 6-1 at flight one to preserve the victory over Southeastern.
Abdelrahim outlasted her opponent in a first set tiebreak, going on to win 7-6 (6), 6-3. Vanthier controlled the second set in a 7-5, 6-1 win.
The clean sweep was clinched when Gendra rallied back from down a set at flight four. It was a riveting tiebreak but Mar prevailed 13-11 to close out the day.
