HAMMOND, La. – The New Orleans Privateers (30-23) battled valiantly but saw their season come to an end as they fell 4-3 in 10 innings to the Southeastern Lions (28-28) on Sunday afternoon. The Lions will play McNeese for the Southland Championship.
DECISIONS
Jack Williams (7-2) took the tough luck loss on the day. The win went to Gage Trahan (4-3) who threw the last two innings on the mound for Southeastern.
HOW IT HAPPENED
New Orleans got an early jolt when they jumped ahead 2-0 after the top of the second on a
Jeissy De la Cruz two-run homer. However, Southeastern's pitching limited the Privateers to four hits as scoring chances were tough to come by on the afternoon.
However, New Orleans remained ahead for most of the afternoon. Trailing 3-1, Southeastern got a run back on a Connor Manola solo home run in the sixth inning. The tying run scored an inning later. With runners on first and third, Pierce Leavengood broke for second. He got in safely and a subsequent errant throw scored Tyler Finke from third.
The Lions also turned three double plays to help slowly flip the momentum to their side. With two outs and two strikes, Shea Thomas took a pitch the other way and scored Preston Faulkner to advance the Lions into next week's championship series.
