Privateers Carry Momentum to Sweep of Southeastern

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers (9-7, 3-1) moved their home record to 5-0 in a 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 26-24) win against the Southeastern Lady Lions (13-4, 3-2) on Thursday evening at the Human Performance Center.

The win against Southeastern was the 44th in program history, the second most against any program (Louisiana-48 wins).

HOW IT HAPPENED
New Orleans raced to a third set lead of 9-3 forcing a Southeastern timeout. However, the Lady Lions roared back to cut the deficit to one on the strength of five consecutive points with two service aces from Kailin Newsome.

The Lady Lions had another spurt of four straight points that gave them a 22-21 lead. After a service error by Southeastern, Trinity Jackson earned an ace to put the Privateers in front. A solo block by Mauri Carver put two match points on the Privateers' hands.

Southeastern saved both match points to send it to extra rallies but the Privateers made the third time the charm as Courtney Roundtree had a solo block at the net on a swing from Crispin Adams to finish off the victory.

The Privateers continue to defend their home court, expanding on their best home start since 2004. New Orleans seized a 13-11 lead in the opening set and never relinquished it from that point. Five different Privateers registered a kill from that point and New Orleans scored on the last three rallies to close out the opening set in their favor.

An efficient attack raised the bar to another level in the second set as the Privateers hit .379 in the set after a .316 attack percentage in the opening set.

A 5-1 run by the Privateers to emphatically break a 10-10 tie set the stage for the remainder of the set. The Privateers had 13 kills to just two errors in 29 attempts on the set while holding Southeastern to a .128 attack percentage.
