NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers (3-13, 2-5) were not to be denied as they turned away a late rally and held strong for a 70-59 win over the Northwestern State Lady Demons on Saturday at the Lakefront Arena.
The win moves New Orleans to 9-1 in their last 10 games against Northwestern State.
A 15-point lead by the Privateers heading into the fourth quarter was trimmed all the way down to five with 6:34 remaining as Northwestern State started to ramp up their press defense. However, New Orleans was able to get to the free throw line in critical moments as they went 10-of-12 from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter.
New Orleans again got out to a quick start. Behind a strong inside presence, the Privateers built up a 41-21 lead at the break. New Orleans scored 24 points in the second quarter alone and shot 52.4 percent from the field.
The ball moved freely once again within the offense as the Privateers had 18 assists on 24 made baskets for the contest. The Privateers also had double-digit steals for the day (11 in total).
Northwestern State was leading the conference in three-pointers made since league play started. However, they were held to just one in the second half and five triples for the game, under their average of 7.8 per game over the last six.
INSIDE THE BOX
Tara Green co-led the way with 17 points and added seven boards while going 7-of-11 from the field.
DeArica Pryor added 17 points, four rebounds and four assists.
Hennessey Luu-Brown chipped in with 15 points.
Justice Ross added a team-best six assists, four steals and three blocks.
Nahja Scott finished with six points and five rebounds.
Northwestern State had three players in double figures. Candice Parramore led the way with 19. Alecia Whyte added 14.

The first of two games against Southeastern takes place in Hammond on Thursday, Jan. 26. Tip is slated for 5 p.m.
