NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team once again got out to a quick start in doubles which helped propel them to a 5-2 victory over the Southern Jaguars on Tuesday afternoon at the Privateer Tennis Center.
On court one,
Laurie Barendse and
Tristanne Dechoux were relentless from the start. The Privateers' top duo did not concede one game as they swept through to a 6-0 win. The doubles point was clinched on court two with
Didi Bredberg Canizares and
Raluca Puscas gaining an early service break on their way to a 6-2 victory.
When the match broke into singles, New Orleans (2-0) had the first three finishers on their side to clinch the victory.
Anastassia Kouchnareva won the first five games of the opening set at flight one against Takalani Molaoa. After finishing the set with a double break, Kouchnareva did more of the same in the second set on her way to a 6-2, 6-1 win.
Barendse was pushed early by Kourtni Miller at flight two but from 4-3, she won the next two games to close out the set in her favor. Barendse scored a straight set victory at 6-3, 6-2 to bring the Privateers to a 3-0 lead in the match.
After being the first off court in singles against North Alabama, Puscas won the clinching point on the day. Puscas was ahead 5-1 against Olivia Jenkins. After Jenkins held serve, Puscas was pushed in her game but she served out to win the match 6-2, 6-2.
The Privateers' fifth point came from
Kateryna Kalistratova who won her first set without a game dropped and won five of the last six games in the second set for a 6-0, 6-3 win.
Southern got victories from Paris Washington at flight three (6-3, 6-2) and Kai Wince who rallied from a set down to win 5-7, 7-5, 11-9.

The Privateers will host ULM on Friday. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
