NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team continues their strong start to the spring after getting the match decided early in a 4-3 win over the ULM Warhawks on Friday at the Privateer Tennis Center.
New Orleans (3-0) won the first four points to clinch the match. ULM (1-3) picked off the remaining three, all in three sets.
It started with a clinical performance in doubles.
Anastassia Kouchnareva and
Ksenia Reznitskaya swept through their opponents at flight three by a 6-0 scoreline. Then
Didi Bredberg Canizares and
Raluca Puscas continued their undefeated streak in doubles by earning a double break victory (6-2) at flight two.
In singles, it was Didi who was off the court first. She raced out to a 5-1 lead in the first set. After Alessandra Anghel broke serve, Didi came back with a service break of her own to finish the set. She cruised from there in the second set to a 6-2, 6-2 win.
Raluca Puscas had another fast first set and she battled through a tougher second set to win 6-1, 6-4 against Tamara Bachmann. The true freshman is now 3-0 in singles and doubles on the 2023 campaign with all singles wins coming in straight sets.
The clinching point was won by
Kateryna Kalistratova. Another true freshman, Kalistratova has played with tremendous poise and has dominated her opponents in singles. Today, she was equally as relentless in defeating Mackenzie King 6-1, 6-2.
Kalistratova and Puscas have combined to hold their opponents to three games or fewer in 10 of 12 sets through the first three matches of the season.
ULM picked up wins at flight two, three and four to close the gap on the final score. Alice Klinteby earned a service break to finish off a grueling three-set match 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.
Olesandra Balaba and Giovanna Pereira both won third set super tiebreaks by the same score line, 10-8.
