NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers got out to a fast start and never looked back as they coasted to a 3-0 win (25-13, 25-18, 25-18) over the Lamar Cardinals on Senior Day at the Human Performance Center.
New Orleans hit .300 for the match and their attack percentage went up in every set. It culminated with a .375 attack percentage in the third set. New Orleans also had a solid advantage in the kill department with 42 kills to Lamar's 29.
The Privateers got out to an early 11-3 lead behind
Buse Kocakaya and
Courtney Roundtree who jump started the offense with two kills apiece in that stretch. Lamar closed the gap to 11-7 on three consecutive attack errors but that was as close as they got for the remainder of the opening set.
New Orleans ended the set by scoring 10 of the last 13 points.
After falling behind 4-1 early in the second set, the Privateers responded with a seven-point run of their own. Though the Cardinals rallied back to tie the score at 10-10, the ever resilient Privateers separated again with a five-point run keyed by two
Karen Cordero Barr kills.
In the third set, New Orleans was leading 10-9 when they went on what was the deciding run. The Privateers scored on eight of the next ten rallies to extend to a seven-point lead. The match was secured by a Roundtree kill, her 11
th of the match.
As of the publishing of this article, the Privateers are still awaiting their seed and first round opponent for the Southland Tournament.
INSIDE THE BOX
Roundtree had another eye-popping total with a .625 hitting percentage in 16 attempts. Kocakaya finished with eight kills while Cordero added nine kills and 12 digs.
Molly Kehoe finished with seven kills and a .333 attack percentage.
Defne Eciroglu finished with 25 assists.
Rita Zecchin had two service aces.
Lamar was led by Wiktoria Warpechowska who had 10 kills and a .429 attack percentage. Taisha Rhone added eight kills.
