Privateers Fall to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers took the fight to the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders early but wound up falling 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-17) on Saturday afternoon at the Human Performance Center.

Before the match, Head Coach Ashley Preston was honored for her recent induction into the Morgan State Athletics Hall of Fame.

The Privateers started the day by racing out to an 8-4 lead on the strength of five early kills in that stretch. Two each came from Irene Kitson and Karen Cordero Barr to set the tone. The Islanders turned the fortunes in the set around when they ripped off six consecutive points to surge in front 22-17.

New Orleans again started out strong by scoring the first three points of the second set but the Islanders quickly settled in from that point. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi built a 13-6 lead but Claire Turner had a solo block on Kyndal Payne that jump started a five-point spurt to cut the Islander lead to two.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi came back strong out of the timeout as they outpaced the Privateers 12-4 in the kill department for the second set.

The Islanders hit .300 in the third set as they battled to victory on the heels of a 3-0 loss at Southeastern on Thursday.

WE ARE YOUR KREWE
For 54 seasons, Privateer student-athletes have had the unique experience of wearing New Orleans across their chests.  Like the city itself, our sports teams have been fueled by resiliency, grit, and the unquenchable desire to win.  Our city also houses the nation's biggest celebration each year. And much like a Mardi Gras parade krewe, we are tethered to our community through pride, tradition, a culture of acceptance, and finally our commitment to show that New Orleans is a world-class city to live, learn, play and work. We invite you to become more involved with the only University that truly represents New Orleans all day, every day.  Join #NOLAsTeam, We Are Your Krewe!
