MOBILE, Ala. – The New Orleans Privateers women's and men's tennis teams were both handed losses at the hands of the South Alabama Jaguars. The women were swept 4-0 while men were defeated 6-1 on Friday.
MEN: SOUTH ALABAMA-6 NEW ORLEANS-1
The Jaguars controlled the outer courts in doubles to get the day started. Maxime-St. Hilaire and Jack Clements scored a 6-1 win at court one. Martin Bugaj and Juan Accossatto won 6-2 to seal the doubles point.
Matthew Armbruster and
Karim Al-Amin were tied at 5-5 when the doubles point was halted.
In singles, the Jaguars won most of their matches in straight sets. Clements was the first off court after a 6-3, 6-1 win. The clinching point was won by St. Hilaire with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at flight two.
Where South Alabama was pushed was at the back half of the rotation.
Luke Joujan extended Louis Delcour to three sets but was defeated 6-2, 3-6, 6-4. Armbruster took his first set to a tiebreak but Bugaj won the breaker 7-5.
The lone point came from
Lilian Dubois who won in straight sets against Accossatto. Dubois scored a 6-3, 6-2 victory.
WOMEN: SOUTH ALABAMA-4 NEW ORLEANS-0
The South Alabama women survived a strong push from the Privateers in doubles and controlled singles in a 4-0 victory.
Anastassia Kouchnareva and
Ksenia Reznitskaya scored a 6-4 win in doubles to start the day for the Privateers. However, South Alabama came back with a 6-3 win at flight one. A late service break decided the doubles point as South Alabama won 7-5 at flight two.
In singles, the Jaguars won at courts two, three and four. All matches were finished in straight sets to end the day.
Tutunaru Luminita won 6-1, 7-6 at flight two. Delien Kleinhans notched a 6-2, 6-4 victory at flight three. Elysia Pool won 6-1, 6-2 at flight four.
Nikola Novotna was ahead 6-4, 5-4 when the match was decided. Tereza Dejnozkova won the first game of her match and flight six had not started when the result was decided.
