BATON ROUGE, La. – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team put up a fierce battle at the top of the lineup in what was a 4-0 loss at the LSU Tigers on Sunday evening.
The Tigers won the doubles point behind a strong effort from the 24
th ranked team in the nation. Stefan Latinovic and Nick Watson won 6-0 to get the first match under the Tigers' belt. The doubles point finished when Chen Dong and Welsh Hotard scored a 6-3 win on court two.
The duo of
Matthew Armbruster and
Karim Al-Amin were ahead 5-4 when the doubles point was secured by LSU.
In singles, Dong, Hotard and Benjamin Ambrosio all won in straight sets. Ambrosio earned a 6-3, 6-0 victory. Dong won 6-0, 6-3 and Hotard won 6-3, 6-4.
In the remaining matches, especially at flights one and two, the Privateers were posing major threats against the top of LSU's lineup.
Max Heinzel was in a battle with Ronald Hohmann who is ranked 30
th in singles in the country. After losing the first set, Heinzel came back to win the second set. They were ready to go to a third when the match was decided.
At flight two, Al-Amin was three games away from victory. After taking the first set 7-5, he and Latinovic went back-and-forth. Their second set was tied 3-3 when the match was clinched by the Tigers.

The Privateers are scheduled to play Southern Miss on Mar. 4 at the Privateer Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
