NEW ORLEANS – On Senior Night, three Privateers scored 20 or more points and the New Orleans Privateers pulled away in the second half to an 88-73 win over the Nicholls Colonels on Thursday evening at the Lakefront Arena.
With the win, New Orleans (7-18, 6-10) tied HCU for the final spot in the Southland Tournament with two games remaining.
Tiana Gipson notched a career-high 20 points in her final home game. Gipson all tied a career-high for three-pointers made with six and added three rebounds and three assists in a career-high 34 minutes of play.
New Orleans broke open a three-point lead at halftime with a 32-point third quarter. New Orleans couldn't miss as they went 13-of-17 from the field, putting the Colonels in chase mode for the remainder of the night.
For the night, the Privateers hit 11-of-19 three-pointers and outrebounded the Colonels 48-35. New Orleans also had 21 assists on the night.
Tara Green went off for a career-high 28 points and added 15 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season. Green also added four blocks.
DeArica Pryor scored 25 points and co-led the team in assists with five.
It was the road team that delivered the first punch with an early 10-3 run to start the game. However, New Orleans countered quickly, rattling off 14 consecutive points to build a 17-10 advantage late in the third quarter.
Every time New Orleans threatened to stretch out the lead though, the Colonels came right back at them throughout the first half. Nicholls went 7-of-12 from downtown in the first half. When the horn sounded, the Privateers carried a 41-38 lead into the locker room.
In the first half, New Orleans had a 28-20 advantage on the boards. 17 of those rebounds were offensive boards. The Privateers had 15 second chance points in the first 20 minutes.
INSIDE THE BOX
Zoe Cooper added a team-high nine boards (five offensive).
Justice Ross who was honored on Senior Night, added six rebounds, five assists and two blocks.
Nahja Scott, who was also part of Senior Day Festivities, pulled down four rebounds in eight minutes.
Nicholls was led by Adrian Mann's 22 points. Deonna Brister posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
