Privateers Hang In Early, Defeated by #1 LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. – The New Orleans Privateers held the #1 LSU Tigers scoreless through four innings but could not counter a mid-inning surge as the Tigers won 16-0 on Tuesday night at Alex Box Stadium.

DECISIONS
Garrett Edwards pitched 3.2 no-hit innings and struck out five in the win out of the pen. Colton Mercer took the loss in his longest outing as a Privateer (4.2 innings).

The game was locked in a 0-0 tie through four innings as the Privateers held the powerful Tigers lineup silent. That was until the fifth inning when Tommy White homered to left field to give LSU a 3-0 lead after five.

The Tigers added seven more runs in the sixth as they took advantage of two Privateer errors, a walk and a hit batter in the inning. Gavin Dugas provided the second homer of the night for the Tigers, a two-run shot to left.

Mercer held LSU scoreless by mixing in three pitches effectively and had a couple of great defensive plays, one on his own accord. Kasten Furr snagged a line drive off the bat of White in the third. To end the fourth, Mercer absorbed a comebacker off the leg and still made the throw to get Jordan Thompson which ended the inning.

New Orleans had a threat cooked up against starter, Chase Shores in the top of the third. Noah Bailey walked and Issac Williams lined a double to left to begin the frame. Shores struck out the next batter then Edwards entered and got a strikeout and a fly out to center.

INSIDE THE BOX
The Privateers were limited to three hits on the night. Williams and Max Dias each had a double. Mercer struck out five batters in his start.

White and Gavin Dugas homered for LSU. Dylan Crews went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs.

NEXT UP
The Privateers travel to Austin to open a series against Texas on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
