LAKE CHARLES, La. – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team won the doubles point but it wasn't enough as they fell 6-1 to the McNeese Cowgirls on Thursday afternoon at the Nancy Hank Tennis Center.
The Privateers gained the early momentum with a hard fought doubles point.
Anastassia Kouchnareva and
Ksenia Reznitskaya continued their solid run in doubles this season with a 6-4 victory at flight three. The first two courts then hinged on a late service break.
McNeese won 7-5 at flight one but the Privateers struck back with a 7-5 victory of their own as
Didi Bredberg Canizares and
Raluca Puscas clinched the doubles point for the Privateers.
In singles however, it was McNeese who had the momentum and gutted out several tough matches to move to 2-0 in Southland play and 11-2 overall.
Emma-Lou Pommiers, Heta Nuutinen and Tiana Fox all won three-set matches. Pommiers won a super tiebreak against Bredberg 10-5. Nuutinen and Fox both came back from a set down to win their respective matches.
Flights four through six were decided in straight sets. Maria Wang Martinez won 6-0, 6-2 and was the first off court. Ariane Monlleo Sanchis didn't drop a game in her first set either as she won 6-0, 6-4. Natalia Ballo won her match 6-1, 6-4.
