Horton Allows One Hit in 6.1 Innings, Privateers Sweep Brown

NEW ORLEANS Collin Horton allowed just one hit in 6.1 innings and the New Orleans Privateers finished off a sweep with a 5-1 win over the Brown Bears on Sunday afternoon at Maestri Field.

DECISIONS
Horton got the win after limiting the Bears to just one hit. He struck out four batters and threw 61 of his 97 pitches for strikes. Dylan Reid took the loss after allowing three runs in five innings. Trey Usey picked up his first collegiate save after throwing the last 2.2 innings.

As it was on Friday, the Bears struck first in the top of the second inning. Jacob Burley homered to left, the first Brown homer in a road game since Feb. 27, 2022. The lead was short-lived as New Orleans tied it up in the bottom of the frame.

Tristan Moore doubled to start the inning. Two batters later, Mitchell Sanford singled past a drawn in infield to tie it at 1-1. The Privateers went ahead an inning later.

Nathan Blasick was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Three batters later, Tyler Bischke singled to bring him in. Then Miguel Useche drove in a run on the first of two sacrifice flies on the day as he scored Kasten Furr.

New Orleans added runs in the sixth and seventh. Moore accounted for his second extra base hit of the day and his first homer as a Privateer, an opposite field blast that made it 4-1. Furr drove in a run on a sac fly in the seventh.

Horton held an opponent to one hit for the second time in his Privateer career. Usey needed just 28 pitches to get the last eight outs of the game.

INSIDE THE BOX
Moore and Sanford each had two-hit days for the Privateers. Furr, Bischke and Miguel Useche each had a hit and an RBI. The sweep was the first for New Orleans since Apr. 8-10, 2022 when they swept McNeese.

The win moved Blake Dean to 196 career victories.

Burley's homer was the first by a Bears player this season. Jared Johnson and Mika Petersen each had singles.

NEXT UP
The Privateers will face South Alabama to begin a five-game week on Tuesday in Mobile. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
