NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's and women's tennis teams both defeated the Alcorn State Braves on Tuesday afternoon at the Privateer Tennis Center.
MEN'S RECAP
NEW ORLEANS-7 ALCORN STATE-0
The Privateers got two wins by opponent retirement as they coasted to a 7-0 victory against the Braves on Tuesday.
Karim Al-Amin and
Espen Lagarde both won without having to play a full second set. Al-Amin's opponent retired from the match after the first set concluded to Al-Amin at 6-2. Lagarde's opponent lost the first game of the second set before calling it a day.
Mihajlo Drobnjakovic made his singles season debut and he broke through late in the first set against Isaac Santitto. Then, Drobnjakovic carried the momentum over to win the second set by a single break in a 6-4, 6-4 victory.
Max Heinzel did not drop a game in singles as he won 6-0, 6-0.
Luke Joujan won a first set tiebreak on his way to a straight set decision.
Lilian Dubois only lost three games in his singles match.
Luka Andronov and Arne Sohmer won their doubles match 6-4. The Privateers took the other two matches in doubles.
WOMEN'S RECAP
NEW ORLEANS-6 ALCORN STATE-1
The rotation starting from flight three had to be resilient in third sets as they were pushed to the limit at several spots in singles.
Anastassia Kouchnareva,
Tristanne Dechoux and
Kateryna Kalistratova all won three-set decisions in singles. Kouchnareva and Kalistratova both won their third sets by single breaks while Dechoux dominated her third set 6-1.
Didi Bredberg Canizares continues her streak in singles as she only lost one game on her way to victory at flight one.
Laurie Barendse also won her match while only dropping one game on the afternoon.
Jaime Edwards won the lone point for the Braves as she scored a tiebreak in the third set.
The Privateers won the doubles point by finishing with a flourish on courts one and two. Dechoux and Barendse won 6-1 at flight one. Bredberg and
Raluca Puscas finished their match without dropping a game in doubles.
NEXT UP
The Privateer men face Nicholls on Wednesday in Thibodaux at 2:30 p.m. The women will play Bryant at home on Mar. 14 at 2 p.m.
