LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The New Orleans Privateers collected 12 hits at the plate and had 12 strikeouts on the mound as they defeated the Little Rock Trojans 7-4 in the series opener at Gary Hogan Field on Friday night.
DECISIONS
Jack Williams got the start and pitched three shutout innings for the win to move to 2-0 on the year. He also struck out four batters. Jackson Wells took the loss after allowing three runs in six innings.
New Orleans pounced for three runs in the third inning to open the scoring against a pitcher who was third in the nation in ERA.
Issac Williams led off the frame with a double. After a successful sac bunt,
Tyler Bischke lined a single into center that pushed across the first run.
Tristan Moore followed next with his 14
th home run of the season and his third in the last four games. That scored two to make it 3-0.
The pitching staff held Little Rock in check for most of the rest of the night. The Trojans did get a run back on an RBI triple by Luke Pectol. However, the Trojans were held scoreless from that point until two outs in the ninth inning.
New Orleans opened up some much needed insurance as they scored four in the top of the ninth. All with two outs, the Privateers poured it on. Bischke singled into left-center to drive in a run. After the bases were loaded,
Kasten Furr scored on a wild pitch. Then
Mitchell Sanford doubled to right to score two more.
Little Rock had one last rally attempt in them. Tyler Williams bounced a two-run single back up the middle with two outs in the ninth inning. Ty Rhoades followed with a single through the right side to cut the lead to 7-4.
Nico Baumbach then hit a line drive to right that was caught by a fully stretched Sanford which ended the game in the Privateers' favor. New Orleans is now 37-13 all-time against the Trojans after the win.
INSIDE THE BOX
Anthony Herron Jr. went 3-for-4 with two doubles. Bischke also had three hits and had two RBI along with two runs. Williams was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs.
Caleb Seroski,
Trey Usey,
Jacob Mead and
Ryan Delorbe each threw a scoreless inning.

The series is scheduled to continue Saturday with now a 6 p.m. first pitch.
