NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers offensive barrage continued into Thursday as they won both games in a run rule against the Southeastern Lions. The first game went to New Orleans by a 10-0 score and the second finished at 22-2 to the Privateers at Maestri Field.
With both wins, the Privateers have brought the Pontchartrain Bowl back to the Lakefront.
GAME ONE
NEW ORLEANS-10 SOUTHEASTERN-0
DECISIONS
Caleb Seroski picked up the win in relief, his first of the season after throwing three shutout innings. The loss went to Brennan Stuprich who gave up seven runs in 2.1 innings.
The Privateers got out the gate quick with six runs in the first inning against Stuprich. Two batters into the bottom of the first,
Tyler Bischke hit his third home run of the week to put the Privateers up 2-0. The onslaught continued from there with four RBI singles later in the inning.
Jose Cabrera got the start and pitched out of some tight spots that included a caught stealing and a double play ball induced in his two innings of work.
New Orleans added another run in the third when
Kasten Furr doubled down the right field line to push the advantage to 7-0.
Mitchell Sanford added two more an inning later on a home run, which was one of five for the Privateers on the day.
The game held at 9-0 until the eighth. With one out,
Dylan Mach singled and
Jorge Tejeda walked. That set up
Issac Williams who took one through into left that scored Mach to end the game in a run rule after eight innings.
GAME TWO
NEW ORLEANS-22 SOUTHEASTERN-2
DECISIONS
Jack Williams threw a scoreless inning of relief in his first win of the season. The loss went to Aaron Hosack who only lasted a third of an inning.
It was second verse, same as the first for the Privateers who plated five runs in the opening frame. The bases were loaded in the opening frame ahead of
Miguel Useche who hit a double to left, scoring two runs.
Mach followed up his three-hit game in the front end of a doubleheader with a two-run single to cap off the scoring in the opening inning.
The Privateer offense was unrelenting as they went for 10 runs in the second inning.
Tristan Moore, who had the big performance at the plate in the nightcap, went yard for the first of what would be two times in the game as he hit a three-run shot to left.
The pitching held Southeastern in check as they had only three hits in the seven-inning affair. That followed only four hits in the series opener.
The win in the second game was the most lopsided by final margin in the series history. The previous largest margin of victory was 18 runs twice (1982 and 1983).
There were two homers in the sixth inning that put an exclamation point on the day. Tejeda hit a homer to left, his fifth of the year. Moore followed with a grand slam. It was the third home run by a Privateer with the bases loaded this season.
INSIDE THE BOX
Mach went 6-for-10 over the two games and drove in three in the second contest. Moore's seven RBI were the most by a Privateer this season and the most since Darren Willis had eight in a Southland Tournament game against Northwestern State in May 2021.
Furr had four hits and five runs scored while Bischke finished with four RBI.
Jacob Mead threw two scoreless innings in the series opener.
Caleb Menina,
Tod Gauthe,
Matthew Maldonado and
Canaan Clayton combined for just two hits and one run allowed in 4.2 innings of the second game.
