LAKE CHARLES, La. – The New Orleans Privateers fell into an early hole and could not dig their way out as they lost 5-3 to the Nicholls Colonels on Friday at Joe Miller Ballpark.

The Privateers will now play the winner of Northwestern State-McNeese at 6 p.m. for a spot in the championship game against the Colonels.

DECISIONS
Tyler Theriot pitched into the seventh inning and picked up the win.
Jack Williams took the loss, his first of the season. Gavin Galy earned his first save of the year.

Nicholls scored four of their five runs with two outs and three of those came with two strikes. The Colonels got on the board first when Macrae Kendrick singled through the right side to score Garrett Felix.

A two-run single followed when Gerardo Villareal hit one back up the middle on an 0-2 count with two outs as he plated two. That extended the Colonels lead to 3-0.

Tyler Bischke had an answer though as he drilled a two-run homer on a line drive to right that sliced the deficit to a run in the bottom of the third inning. New Orleans then got the tying run to third an inning later but could not cash in.

From that point, Theriot retired nine straight batters. That streak was broken when
Jeissy De la Cruz hit a home run to left to cut the deficit to 5-3.

Galy entered from there and did not allow a baserunner the rest of the game as he got the last eight outs in 33 pitches.
