LAKE CHARLES, La. – The New Orleans Privateers battled to the end but fell short in the championship game as they lost 6-3 to the Nicholls Colonels on Saturday afternoon at Joe Miller Ballpark.

New Orleans' season ends with a 36-24 record, the most wins in a single season since 2008.

DECISIONS
Michael Quevedo got the win as he began the game with four shutout innings and wound up with two runs allowed in five frames.
Jacob Mead took the loss. Cade Evans earned his seventh save of the season.

ALL-TOURNAMENT SELECTIONS
Issac Williams,
Jorge Tejeda,
Tyler Bischke and
Brandon Mitchell all made the Southland All-Tournament Team which was announced after the game.

Mitchell took the ball and set the tone for the Privateers. He threw three scoreless innings in 35 pitches. The game remained scoreless until the fifth inning when Tejeda delivered a line drive two-run home run to left that put the Privateers up 2-0.

Nicholls formed a quick response though. After back-to-back Colonels reached base with two outs, Wes Toups doubled in a run. Then Kaden Amundson hit another double that deflected off the bag at third and into left.

Nicholls continued to keep the pressure on as they added to their lead in the sixth. Garrett Felix doubled down the line to bring in two and MaCrae Kendrick drove in another run on an RBI single.

From there, Nico Saltaformaggio held the Privateers scoreless until the ninth. That's when
Miguel Useche homered to cut the lead to 6-3. It was the first run the Colonel bullpen had allowed in the tournament.

The Colonels went to Evans who retired the next three batters in order with two strikeouts.

New Orleans made the championship game for the second time since joining the Southland Conference. The four All-Tournament members are the most they've had in any Southland Tournament since joining the league in 2014.
