ATLANTA, Ga. – The New Orleans Privateers grabbed early advantages in the second and third set but were ultimately defeated 3-0 (25-16, 25-23, 25-15) by the Chattanooga Mocs on Friday morning in the opener of the GSU Invitational.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Mocs used a .432 attack percentage with just two errors in 37 attempts to win the opening set of the tournament.
New Orleans made defensive adjustments that paid dividends throughout most of the second set as the Mocs were lowered to just a .075 attack percentage. New Orleans raced to a 5-1 lead to begin the second set.
The Mocs came storming back to take a five-point advantage at 13-8 but the Privateers quickly swung momentum back on their side of the net. An 8-2 run by the Privateers fueled by strong presence at the net and a couple of Mocs errors gave the Privateers the lead back at 16-15.
New Orleans took the lead back 23-22 in a see-saw affair after a
Sydney Gott kill. However, the Mocs got two kills and a block in a three-point stretch to take the set and a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Privateers got out to a 6-3 lead early in the third set but a 10-0 Mocs run in response put the set out of reach for New Orleans. Chattanooga hit .302 in what turned into the deciding set of the match.
