NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers averaged 19 digs per set through the first two sets of a spirited battle but ultimately lost 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-17) to the Texas A&M-Commerce Lions on Thursday at the Human Performance Center.
Through 30 rallies in the first set, there was nothing in between the two sides on the scoreboard. The Lions took over from there with a 10-2 run keyed by Peyton Roper who had five kills in six attempts during the opening set.
New Orleans turned the tide early in the second set as they build a 10-point lead. Behind the service line and getting the Lions out of system, the Privateers were able to rack up points at the net. After a timeout, the Lions went on a 7-0 run to close the gap to three.
The Lions eventually leveled the score at 20-20 and that's when Millie Allgood provided a pair of key service aces. Texas A&M-Commerce led 24-21 with set points on their hands. The Privateers saved two set points but the third time was the charm for the road side as they closed the set in their favor.
Texas A&M-Commerce rode that momentum to an early 9-4 lead in the third set and hit .321 in the deciding set to move their conference record to 3-1.
