Scott Nets Career-High 18 Points in Loss vs. Northwestern State

NEW ORLEANSNahja Scott set a new career-high in points but the Northwestern State Lady Demons hit 10 triples as they scored a 72-43 decision over the Privateers on Saturday afternoon at the Lakefront Arena.
 
Scott's 18 points on 4-of-8 from the field and 10-of-11 from the free throw line surpassed her previous high of 15 points against UIW in February 2022.
 
Northwestern State broke open a close game in the third quarter when they poured in 20 points and extended their lead to 15 by the beginning of the fourth quarter. The Lady Demons were also efficient in their three-point shooting, hitting 3-of-6 in the third stanza.
 
The road team followed a 20-point third quarter with 23 fourth quarter points on 6-of-11 from the field (54.5 percent) to seal the victory.
 
The Lady Demons opened the game with a Jiselle Woodson three-pointer on the first possession. From there, Northwestern State held the Privateers in check until the latter part of the first quarter. New Orleans gained their first lead with a pair of Scott free throws at the 3:26 mark.
 
Though the road side was held to just 31 percent from the field in the first half, they had a spurt of triples late in the second quarter that contributed to their largest lead at 10 points with 42 seconds left in the half. Jayla Kimbrough responded with a mid-range jumper and the Privateers got a stop on the last possession of the half to go the locker room trailing 29-21.
 
INSIDE THE BOX
Brianna Ellis finished with 14 points and four rebounds. DeArica Pryor had seven points and seven rebounds along with three steals. Justice Ross added two blocks after coming into the day second in the league in rejections.
 
Northwestern State was led by Woodson who had 19 points. Sharna Ayres finished with a double-double (16 points, 10 rebounds.
 
NEXT UP
The Privateers will head to Beaumont to face Lamar on Thursday. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.
