COMMERCE, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers volleyball team ended their season with a straight set loss as they fell 3-0 (25-13, 25-10, 25-22) on Saturday morning at the Field House.
The first 14 rallies were evenly split at 7-7 as
Courtney Roundtree and
Chelsea Daffin each had two early kills. From there, East Texas A&M went on a 10-0 spurt. Kitana Tuufuli and Peyton Roper combined for five kills in that stretch for the Lions.
The Lions had 15 kills to the Privateers' eight in the opening set. East Texas A&M also had 19 digs.
Set two began with an early East Texas A&M run that put them ahead 7-2. Carley Spachman produced kills on consecutive rallies and the Lions as a team produced kills on five of their first seven swings.
East Texas A&M hit .414 in the second set and they finished the set off with an ace by Millie Allgood to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
New Orleans had the lead early in the third set at 5-4 as
Ryan Williams had two early kills in the set. A little later in the set, East Texas A&M went on a run that pushed them to a seven-point advantage. Leading 9-8, the Lions went on a run of six consecutive points.
The Privateers tried to chip away at the Lions' lead, which grew to as large as nine points at 20-11.
Jamiryana Hall had three kills in a span of four rallies and the Lions' lead was cut down to 23-20 by kills from Williams and
Molly Kehoe.
Out of a timeout, the Lions benefitted from a service error that put them at match point. New Orleans saved the first two attempts, but the Lions finished the match on the third time of asking with a Spachman kill.
Spachman led the Lions with nine kills and a .529 attack percentage. Tuufuli had six kills. Ellie Baumert finished with 28 assists and 11 digs.
INSIDE THE BOX
Roundtree had nine kills to lead the offense. Daffin finished with four kills while Hall, Williams, Kocakaya and
Elani Ratchkovska all had three kills.
Alexis Belarmino had 16 assists.
Lani Alleman led the way in digs with 14 while Kehoe added eight digs.
