Pryor Surpasses 1,000 Points for Collegiate Career, Privateers Defeat HCU

NEW ORLEANSDeArica Pryor reached 1,000 career points and the New Orleans Privateers used a fourth quarter spurt to secure a 71-61 win over the HCU Huskies on Thursday night at the Lakefront Arena.

Pryor came into the night with 997 career points (Creighton totals included). She went off for 22 points on the evening and her catch-and-shoot three pointer from the left wing with 3:47 remaining in the first quarter put her over the 1,000-point threshold. Now, Pryor is marching toward 1,000 career points just at New Orleans. 916 of her now 1,019 career points have come on the Lakefront.

The score was tied nine times and the Huskies used the three-pointer early to stay in the proceedings. The score was knotted up at the end of the half and the end of the third quarter. However, the Privateers saved their best for last as they went 8-of-13 from the field in the fourth quarter.

Jo Oly hit a fast break layup in the paint to bring the Huskies within a possession, trailing 62-59. From there, Nora Francois got four quick points for the Privateers and Pryor converted a couple of fast break layups to put the game out of reach in the final minute.

HCU was hot from the perimeter to start the game as they went 5-for-9 from long distance in the first half. The Huskies cooled in the second half though as they only hit 2-of-9 three-point attempts.

The Privateers also did not allow an offensive rebound in the half to the Huskies and only allowed three offensive boards for the game. It was similar to the game in Houston where the Privateers kept HCU off the offensive glass in the first half.
