Women's Tennis Takes Doubles Point in Loss to Mississippi State

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers won the doubles point in comeback fashion but they ultimately fell on the scoreboard 4-1 to the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Friday evening at the Privateer Tennis Center.

The evening started with a grandstand rally from the Privateers' #1 doubles team. Tristanne Dechoux and Anastassia Kouchnareva were down a double break early but they came back to force a tiebreak, which they won 7-5 to secure the doubles point.

Earlier, Laurie Barendse and Ksenia Reznitskaya took their match at flight two with a late service break as they won 7-5.

On the ropes after a loss to Tulane earlier in the day, the Bulldogs responded at several spots in singles to quickly take momentum back and eventually finish off their ninth win of the season.

Chloe Cirotte started things off when she put the finishing touches on a 6-1, 6-2 win at flight four. The Bulldogs then went ahead in the match for the first time after Jayna Clemens secured a 6-2, 6-2 win at flight six.

Alexandra Mikhailuk continued the momentum. She did not drop a game in her first set at flight two on her way to a 6-0, 6-4 win.

The clinching point was scored by Dharani Niroshan who only lost four games on the way to a 6-1, 6-3 victory at flight five.

Barendse won her first set 7-5 against Maria Rizzolo but was down a break in the second set when the match finished. Kateryna Kalistratova lost out in a grueling tiebreak in the first set against Athina Pitta. Kalistratova was down 3-2 in the second set when the match finished.

And much like a Mardi Gras parade krewe, we are tethered to our community through pride, tradition, a culture of acceptance, and finally our commitment to show that New Orleans is a world-class city to live, learn, play and work. We invite you to become more involved with the only University that truly represents New Orleans all day, every day.  Join #NOLAsTeam, We Are Your Krewe!
