NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team put up a fierce battle on courts two and three in doubles but the Ole Miss Rebels won the day without dropping a point 7-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Privateer Tennis Center.
The doubles point started with Ole Miss taking the match at #1 doubles without conceding a point as Nikola Slavic and Lukas Engelhardt won 6-0.
The remaining two courts saw a battle that went down to the wire.
Marcel Volz and
Luke Joujan secured a break in the middle of their set to get back on serve. Meanwhile,
Matthew Armbruster and
Sergi Tintore were trading games with Ole Miss at court three.
The Rebels' pair of Isac Stromberg and Noah Schlagenhauf broke through late with a critical service break to win their match 7-5. The match at court three did not finish with Ole Miss leading 6-5.
In singles, Armbruster and Volz both pushed their opponents to the limit. Armbruster got an early break and was ahead 4-3 while serving. His opponent, Engelhardt came back to get the match on serve and forced a tiebreak which he prevailed in on his way to a straight set victory.
Volz was going back and forth with Slavic and their first set went to a tiebreak which Slavic prevailed in to set up a straight set win.
Ole Miss won the remaining singles matches in straight sets as well to complete the morning.
