Volz, Joujan Earn Singles Wins as Privateers Fall to Tennessee State

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers got wins from the top two men in their rotation  but they fell on the short end of a 4-2 decision against the Tennessee State Tigers on Wednesday afternoon at the Privateer Tennis Center.

The day started with a back and forth battle in doubles. Matthew Armbruster and Sergi Tintore helped set up a deciding match for the first point as they won their match 6-2. However, Tennessee State got the late service break to win at flight one 7-5 and take the first point of the afternoon.

In singles, the Tigers won in comeback fashion at flight three. Taj Hibbert came back for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win. He got a game misconduct after the match but upon review by the ITA it was determined that David Tesic's match was to be ruled as abandoned with Tesic leading 5-4 in the third set at flight three.

The Privateers narrowed the gap to 3-2 before then as Marcel Volz and Luke Joujan both scored points. Volz ran through his first set on the way to a 6-1, 6-4 victory. Joujan also won in straight sets as he took home a 6-4, 6-4 win at flight two.

The Tigers also got a win at flight six when Nil Moinet won a long first set before sweeping the second set for a 7-5, 6-0 result.

WE ARE YOUR KREWE
For 54 seasons, Privateer student-athletes have had the unique experience of wearing New Orleans across their chests.  Like the city itself, our sports teams have been fueled by resiliency, grit, and the unquenchable desire to win.  Our city also houses the nation's biggest celebration each year. And much like a Mardi Gras parade krewe, we are tethered to our community through pride, tradition, a culture of acceptance, and finally our commitment to show that New Orleans is a world-class city to live, learn, play and work. We invite you to become more involved with the only University that truly represents New Orleans all day, every day.  Join #NOLAsTeam, We Are Your Krewe!
