NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team was locked in a competitive battle but fell on the short end of a 4-2 score line against the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns on Tuesday afternoon at the Privateer Tennis Center.
The Cajuns won both doubles matches by a single service break at courts two and three. Paige Duncan and Jenalia Prulla won their match 6-4. That score line was repeated by Kamea Medora and Nina Krecklenburg at flight three.
Louisiana got clutch performances in singles from the back of their rotation as they won singles matches at flight five and six. It was Duncan who won her match 6-3, 6-4 at flight five. Krecklenburg only lost five games en route to a flight six win.
The Privateers fought back though as they picked up two key points from
Tristanne Dechoux and
Kateryna Kalistratova.
Dechoux won her first set by a single break and was even more dominant in set two as she won 6-4, 6-2 over Prulla. Meanwhile, Kalistratova only dropped four games as she handled Angelique Berrat 6-3, 6-1 at flight four.
However, the Cajuns got a win from Carla Urchoeguia at flight one as part of their victory. Urchoeguia got out to a big early lead in the first set and held steady in her second set to win 6-1, 6-3.
The remaining match went unfinished between
Laurie Barendse and Medora. Barendse won the first set 6-3 and Medora took the second set 6-4.
