Women's Tennis Falls in Conference Opener to McNeese

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team had a dominant outing from their flight two doubles team and a couple of close matches in singles but the McNeese Cowgirls prevailed 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Privateer Tennis Center.

Laurie Barendse and Ksenia Reznitskaya were in control as they defeated Emma-Lou Pommiers and Ariane Monlleo 6-1 at the start of the day. It was McNeese who took the surrounding courts in close matches to win the doubles point though.

Arina Gamretkaia and Anastasija Adelkyte won 6-4 at flight one. Tiana Fox and Aina Domingo-Bernabe also scored a 6-4 win at flight three to give McNeese the first point of the day.

In singles, Anastassia Kouchnareva breezed through her match against Domingo. Kouchnareva lost only three games on her way to picking up the first point of the day for the Privateers.

New Orleans was close to picking up two more points but third set 10-point tiebreaks did not go their way at flight one and four. Gamretkaia prevailed 10-5 for McNeese at flight one while Pommiers won by the same score at flight four.

The rest of the matches went to McNeese in straight sets. Adelkyte won 6-3, 6-2 at flight three. Fox and Monello combined to lose only seven games as they won their respective matches at flight five and six.

WE ARE YOUR KREWE
For 54 seasons, Privateer student-athletes have had the unique experience of wearing New Orleans across their chests.  Like the city itself, our sports teams have been fueled by resiliency, grit, and the unquenchable desire to win.  Our city also houses the nation's biggest celebration each year. And much like a Mardi Gras parade krewe, we are tethered to our community through pride, tradition, a culture of acceptance, and finally our commitment to show that New Orleans is a world-class city to live, learn, play and work. We invite you to become more involved with the only University that truly represents New Orleans all day, every day.  Join #NOLAsTeam, We Are Your Krewe!
