Five Privateers Reach Double Figures in Home Loss to UIW

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Despite a strong effort, the New Orleans men's basketball team (7-15, SLC 2-7) fell short with an 82-80 loss to UIW (7-14 SLC 2-6) on Saturday afternoon at Lakefront Arena. Five Privateers scored in double figures, led by Jordan Johnson with an impressive 23 points.

Trailing by as much as nine points, New Orleans mounted a late comeback, going on a 6-1 run in the final minute. Sky Wicks, who led the Cardinals in scoring, missed his second free-throw after making the first with 11 seconds remaining. After Turk Vincent secured the defensive board, he drove to the basket, bringing the score to 82-80. In the final 0.3 seconds, a timeout was called, leading to a UIW turnover and a steal by Khaleb Wilson-Rouse. However, the buzzer sounded as he dished out the ball to Jordan Johnson for a 3-point attempt. 

The first half saw New Orleans leading by as much as ten points, but UIW responded with a 19-9 run in the remaining 7:30 minutes, taking a one-point edge into halftime.

In his 11th game with 20+ points, Johnson also dished out five assists. Wilson-Rouse added 14 points, going 2-of-2 both from the perimeter and the foul line, while Carlos Hart scored a season-high 13 points, shooting a perfect 8-of-8 from the charity stripe. Tyson Jackson and Turk Vincent each chipped in 11 points, with Vincent leading the Privateers with seven rebounds.

The Privateers shot 44.6% for the game and displayed proficiency from beyond the arc, making 9-of-19 3-pointers. Additionally, New Orleans forced 15 turnovers throughout the game.

NEXT UP: New Orleans will look to get revenge on the HCU Huskies at home Monday night. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m.
