Women's Tennis Falls to Missouri State

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team suffered a 4-0 defeat at the hands of the Missouri State Bears on Saturday morning at the Privateer Tennis Center.
 
The Bears got out to a quick start in doubles. Juliette Robinson and Tuana Ganal were up a double break through the first five games. The Privateers' tandem of Audelia Morgin Kougoucheff and Kateryna Kalistratova rallied to get one of the service breaks back and close the gap to 4-3 but Missouri State won the next two games to seal their victory.
 
Missouri State also got a win at flight one as their tandem of Cristina Flaquer and Nicole Ross won 6-3. The Privateers were up 5-3 with Laurie Barendse and Ksenia Reznitskaya when the doubles point was stopped.
 
In singles, the Bears got wins at flight two, three and five to finish the match in their favor.
 
Mary Houston only lost three games as she won 6-2, 6-1. Ross won a long first set as she secured a late service break. Ross wound up winning 7-5, 6-1.
 
Gunal got the point at flight five for the Bears in three sets. After she took the first set 6-0, she lost the second set 6-2. Gunal bounced back to sweep the third set and take the match.
 
Barendse was in the third set of her match at flight one. Kalistratova was on the brink of taking the second set, leading 5-2 when the match was clinched. Kougoucheff won the first set and was down 4-1 in the second.

The Privateers are slated to play Tulane at City Park on Sunday at 2 p.m.
