SAN ANTONIO, Texas –
Kristen Crenshaw-Gill tied the game with a corner three with 18 seconds left in regulation but it was the UIW Cardinals who prevailed 79-76 in double overtime against the New Orleans Privateers on Saturday at the McDermott Center.
The Privateers spent the entire second half trying to get back on level terms. New Orleans was down 10 at halftime but they went on a 9-0 run to cut the Cardinal lead to one. The Cardinals remained ahead until the last possession in overtime when Crenshaw-Gill knocked down the clutch three. UIW then went empty on the final possession of the scheduled 40 minutes.
In the first overtime period, it was the Cardinals' turn to extend the game. Jorja Elliott missed a three but the ball went out of bounds last touched by the Privateers. UIW had one more shot at it and Nina De Leon Negron knocked down a left wing three to tie the game at 64-64 and send it to double overtime.
Nora Francois scored the first four points of the double overtime period but the Cardinals quickly answered to tie the game at 68-68. After UIW went ahead 72-71 on a Chloe Storer layup, the Privateers had a chance to take the lead back with under a minute remaining.
Two shots were missed on the possession and the Cardinals got the rebound. From there, UIW forced a Privateer turnover and two missed shots while they slowly built on their lead in the final minute.
DeArica Pryor hit a three in the final seconds which served as the last points of the contest.
INSIDE THE BOX
Francois had her fourth double-double in five games with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Pryor played all 50 minutes and led the Privateers with 20 points and four steals.
Alexis Calderon finished with 13 points while
Jayla Kimbrough added eight.
Negron scored a career-high 28 points to lead the Cardinals. Storer and Destiny Terrell finished with 13 points each. UIW outrebounded the Privateers 52-37.

The Privateers close the regular season back at home against McNeese on Wednesday, Mar. 6. Tip is slated for 5 p.m.
