NEW ORLEANS –
Audelia Morin Kougoucheff would not be denied in a first set tiebreak as she went on to secure the match winning point in a 4-3 victory for the New Orleans Privateers over the Lamar Cardinals on Wednesday at the Privateer Tennis Center.
Down to the final match with the score tied at 3-3, Audelia was resolute throughout an impressive tiebreaker. She did not drop a point and took the breaker 7-0. She used that momentum to gain an early break in the second set and go up 3-0.
After Audelia's serve was broken in the next game, she responded once again persevering in long points to grab a 4-1 lead. She held her serve calmly through the changeover and took advantage of a couple of unforced errors to rally from 30-15 down in the deciding game.
The day started with the women taking the doubles point after a couple of grueling matches.
Tristanne Dechoux and
Anastassia Kouchnareva outlasted their opponents for a 7-5 win at flight one.
Ksenia Reznitskaya and
Laurie Barendse did the same at flight two for the Privateers and won by the same score line.
In singles, Barendse dominated early and only let up two games in her 6-1, 6-1 victory at flight one. The Privateers also got a singles point from Kouchnareva who raced out to an early 3-0 lead in the second set. Kouchnareva was able to hold at some pivotal moments in set two as she turned in a 6-3, 6-4 result.
The Cardinals won straight set matches at flight three, four and five. In flight five, Natalia Turczuk came back from down a break in the second set and wound up with a 6-3, 6-4 victory.
