NEW ORLEANS – For the second consecutive day, the New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team gutted out a 4-3 win as they held strong in several three set matches against the SIU-Edwardsville Cougars on Thursday at the Privateer Tennis Center.
The Privateers won all three matches that went three sets in singles after securing the doubles point to begin the day.
Laurie Barendse rallied from down a set and got a late service break in the third to win 3-6, 6-4, 7-5.
Anastassia Kouchnareva also picked up a critical point at flight two. Kouchnareva and Margaux Guibal Britt split the first two sets. Kouchnareva prevailed in the third set with a service break of separation on the scoreboard in a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 win.
At flight three,
Tristanne Dechoux overwhelmed her opponent in the third set. After dropping the first set to Jordan Schifano, Dechoux only lost five games in a 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory at flight three to help vault the Privateers to victory over the previously 8-1 Cougars.
The day started with New Orleans taking the doubles point. Kouchnareva and Dechoux took their match by a service break with a 6-4 win.
Audelia Morin Kougoucheff and
Kateryna Kalistratova also won their doubles match 6-3.
SIUE won their singles matches at flights four through six, taking them all in straight sets.
NEXT UP
The Privateers will take on Missouri State on Friday, Mar. 15 at the Privateer Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
