Men's Tennis Sweeps Prairie View on Senior Day

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers were efficient in doubles and controlled the action at flights four through six in singles as they defeated the Prairie View A&M Panthers 4-0 on Thursday at the Privateer Tennis Center.

Luke Joujan and Marcel Volz were honored before the match as part of Senior Day festivities. Then the pair went out and won their doubles match at flight one without conceding a game. Volz sealed the match with a service ace.

Joseph Townes and Marc Mail finished the doubles point for the Privateers as they won by the same score line at flight three. Matthew Armbruster and Sergi Tintore were on the verge of clinching their match, ahead 5-3 when the doubles point was won.

In singles, the freshmen trio of Townes, Tintore and Mark Armbruster gave the Privateers the points needed to win their sixth match of the season.

Townes and Armbruster did not drop a game in their first set. They both went on to command the second set early. Townes won 6-0, 6-3 and Armbruster sealed his match 6-0, 6-1.

Tintore took his first set by a double break. The second set had nothing in between him and Xavier Peter-Gooding as it was on serve with Tintore leading 4-3. With the eighth game tied at 30-30, Tintore won the next two points to earn a service break. He then served out for the match, winning 6-2, 6-3.

Volz was up a set and a double break when the match finished. Joujan won the first set but was down a break in the second. Matthew won his first set and was trailing 4-3 in the second set.

WE ARE YOUR KREWE
For 54 seasons, Privateer student-athletes have had the unique experience of wearing New Orleans across their chests.  Like the city itself, our sports teams have been fueled by resiliency, grit, and the unquenchable desire to win.  Our city also houses the nation's biggest celebration each year. And much like a Mardi Gras parade krewe, we are tethered to our community through pride, tradition, a culture of acceptance, and finally our commitment to show that New Orleans is a world-class city to live, learn, play and work. We invite you to become more involved with the only University that truly represents New Orleans all day, every day.  Join #NOLAsTeam, We Are Your Krewe!
