Privateers Hit Two Early Homers in Loss to LSU

BATON ROUGE, La.Mitchell Sanford and Diego Villescas produced early home runs but the LSU Tigers had a mid-inning surge to top the New Orleans Privateers 6-3 on Tuesday night at Alex Box Stadium.

The Privateers had a lead up until the fifth inning. Steven Milam lined a triple into the right field corner that brought around Paxton Kling to tie the game. Tommy White had an RBI ground out that brought Milam in to give the Tigers their first advantage of the inning.

In the sixth, LSU opened up a little distance on their lead with two solo home runs from Hayden Travisinki and Brady Neal. The Tigers were able to see out the rest of the game in part due to three double plays turned by their infield defense.

Issac Williams led off the seventh by hitting a ball off the wall but was thrown out at second. The play was challenged but the call stood through review and although the Privateers had at least a base runner on in seven of the nine innings, they could not break through against LSU's bullpen, which combined to allow just two hits over the last five innings.

New Orleans got the early jump when Sanford blasted a two-run home run off LSU starter, Thatcher Hurd to give the Privateers the leg up. LSU responded with a run in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by White.

Two innings later, Diego Villescas greeted Samuel Dutton out of the pen with a solo homer to give the Privateers a 3-1 edge. LSU responded with their first of three homers in the bottom of the fourth, a solo shot by Jared Jones.

Nathan Blasick and Kyrin Tyson-Long combined for 2.2 innings to close out the game on the mound and five strikeouts. Cortez Dennis pitched into the fifth inning and allowed three runs on four hits.
