Women's Tennis Surges Past Nicholls

THIBODAUX, La. – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team swept the board in doubles as they defeated the Nicholls Colonels 5-2 on Wednesday afternoon at the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex.

The day started with a resounding performance for the first point of the afternoon. Laurie Barendse and Ksenia Reznitskaya continue to stack up the wins as they moved to 8-1 overall after a 6-1 victory at flight two.

Courts one and three saw the Privateers win both matches 6-3 to sweep the doubles action. Tristanne Dechoux and Anastassia Kouchnareva won their eighth doubles match of the spring. Audelia Morin Kougoucheff and Kateryna Kalistratova earned a victory at flight three.

In singles, the Colonels won two of the first three matches to finish which leveled the overall score at 2-2. Carla Bouygues won 6-3, 6-1 at flight two and Sophia Safarova scored a 7-5, 6-4 decision at flight three.

In between those two Colonel victories, Kalistratova delivered the first singles win for the Privateers. She breezed through the first set and won her match 6-0, 6-4 against Lea Grinberg.

From there, the Privateers controlled the action the rest of the way. Kougoucheff won her first set by a single break and had a double break advantage in the second set at flight six as she won 6-4, 6-2 for her third conference singles triumph.

The clinching point was won by Barendse at flight one. After persevering through a grueling tiebreak in the first set against Liu Qian Yu, Barendse took the second set to clinch the match 7-6 (6), 6-4. Barendse is now 4-1 against conference opponents.

With the overall match decided, Reznitskaya's match was the last to finish. After falling behind by a set, the sophomore came storming back to take her match 2-6, 6-2, 7-5 for her third consecutive singles victory.
