NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's tennis team pounced early on a shorthanded Northwestern State squad and engineered a dominant 6-1 victory on Saturday at the Privateer Tennis Center.
Northwestern State was playing with five players so they had to forfeit a doubles match. The Privateers needed to win one match to take the doubles point and they got it from
Laurie Barendse and
Ksenia Reznitskaya who teamed up for a 6-3 win at flight two.
Once the action broke down to singles, the Privateers had another point in hand with an automatic win at flight six. That put the Privateers up 2-0 and they were easily able to find two more points to put the match away.
Anastassia Kouchnareva scored an easy win at flight two winning both sets by a double break. She defeated Sara Erenda 6-2, 6-2. Barendse continued her strong season with another victory at flight one. After enduring a long first set, she put away Tjasa Klevisar 7-5, 6-3.
The Privateers also got wins at flight three and five.
Tristanne Dechoux was in control as she defeated Maria Farina 6-3, 6-3.
The last match was
Audelia Morin Kougoucheff's to take. After she lost the first set to Honoka Umeda, Kougoucheff rallied with a late service break to take the second set. In the race to 10 points, Kougoucheff won with ease, as she took it by a 10-4 count against Umeda.
The lone Lady Demons' win came from flight four as Sofi Garcia won her match 6-0, 6-1.
