HAMMOND, La. – The New Orleans Privateers grabbed a first inning lead but were shut out the rest of the way in a 10-2 loss against the Southeastern Lions on Wednesday evening at Pat Kenelly Diamond.
New Orleans will now play an elimination game on Thursday at 12 p.m. against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
The Privateers got two strikeouts from
Ryan Delorbe in the opening frame. The offense then got a pair of runs in with two outs.
Miguel Useche reached on a throwing error that allowed
Mitchell Sanford to score. Then
Bryce Calloway hit a liner to center that drove in a second run to make it 2-0 New Orleans.
From there, the Lions got two home runs from Jude Hall. His first homer tied the game in the second inning. Then he came up in the fourth and homered again to give the Lions their first lead of the night at 4-2.
New Orleans looked to respond in the fifth inning as
Issac Williams led off with a double. The Privateers got the tying run on base with two outs but could not make a dent in the scoreboard as Brennan Stuprich a fly out to end the inning.
From there, the Lions put the game out of reach with a six-run sixth inning. After the Lions loaded the bases with one out, Conner O'Neal was hit by a pitch. Two-run singles by Cole Stromboe and Ryan Brome with an RBI base hit by Parker Coley sandwiched in between followed.
Stuprich went seven innings and did not allow an earned run as he picked up his sixth win of the season.
INSIDE THE BOX
Trey Usey and
Connor Macip combined for three shutout innings to close out the game on the mound. Sanford went 2-for-4 and added his 18
th stolen base of the season.
Alexander Saunier went 3-for-3. The Privateer pitching staff recorded 15 strikeouts, which tied a single game high this season.
Stuprich struck out six batters and threw 104 pitches. Seven Lion starters collected a hit. Hall wound up with four RBI.
