Privateers Hit Three Home Runs, Season Ends With Loss to Southeastern

HAMMOND, La. – The New Orleans Privateers hit three home runs but were left with too much to do early as they were eliminated by the Southeastern Lions in an 11-5 loss on Friday afternoon at Pat Kenelly Diamond.

The Privateers' season finishes after a record of 31-26.

Southeastern jumped on top early after they scored six runs, all with two outs. Grant Edwards struck out two of the first three batters but Shea Thomas hit a single that deflected through the left side to continue the inning. Rhett Rosevear knocked in the first run on a bloop hit and that led to two more big hits.

Jake Haze lined a single to center that scored two runs and Conner O'Neal hit a three-run homer to give the Lions a 6-0 lead before New Orleans could take a turn at the plate.

The Privateers had hard contact consistently throughout the day. Diego Villescas hit the first of three homers in the bottom of the first but the next two outs were recorded on exit velocities of 104 and 102 miles per hour.

New Orleans could not make a sizable enough dent in the scoreboard. They scored on an Issac Williams double in the second inning to cut the lead to 6-2 but that's as close as they got for the remainder of the afternoon.

Caleb Seroski entered the game with one out in the third and kept the Lions quiet for 4.2 innings. He allowed just one unearned run in his 71st and final appearance on the mound. He also struck out four batters.

Williams ended his Privateer career with 199 games played. He had 38 doubles and 28 home runs with 124 RBI.

INSIDE THE BOX
Bryce Calloway and Victor Castillo both hit home runs for New Orleans. Castillo, a graduate student, hit 10 home runs his year on the Lakefront. Williams finished 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles. Kyrin Tyson-Long and Tyler LeBlanc each pitched an inning. LeBlanc's Privateer career ends with 172 innings pitched and 149 strikeouts.

Aiden Vosburg went the distance for his first win of the season. He struck out seven batters and threw 118 pitches. Parker Coley finished 3-for-6 with a home run. O'Neal drove in four runs. The Lions advance to face Nicholls on Friday night.

WE ARE YOUR KREWE
For 54 seasons, Privateer student-athletes have had the unique experience of wearing New Orleans across their chests.  Like the city itself, our sports teams have been fueled by resiliency, grit, and the unquenchable desire to win.  Our city also houses the nation's biggest celebration each year. And much like a Mardi Gras parade krewe, we are tethered to our community through pride, tradition, a culture of acceptance, and finally our commitment to show that New Orleans is a world-class city to live, learn, play and work. We invite you to become more involved with the only University that truly represents New Orleans all day, every day.  Join #NOLAsTeam, We Are Your Krewe!
