NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans men's basketball team (2-14, 0-5 Southland) couldn't overcome the sharp-shooting Southeastern Lions (8-8, 2-3 Southland), falling 91-71 on Saturday evening at Lakefront Arena.
The Southeastern Lions shot 51.4% in the first half on their way to a 20-point halftime advantage before shooting 51.6% in the second half to secure a 20-point victory. The Lions controlled the boards with a 43-28 advantage and outscored UNO in the paint 42-28.
Three Privateers finished in double figures:
MJ Thomas led the team with a career-high 18 points and three rebounds.
James White scored 15 points, marking his ninth straight game in double digits.
Dae Dae Hunter added 11 points including a pair of three-pointers.
Luke Davis led the Privateers in rebounding for the second consecutive game, grabbing seven boards to go with his seven points.
Kohen Rowbatham scored a career-high nine points on Saturday evening. The Metairie native also recorded three assists, one steal, and one rebound in a career-high 18 minutes off the bench.
UNO blocked four shots for just the third time this season (previously vs. Lindenwood and at Vanderbilt) and finished with eight steals. Thomas, Hunter,
Jah Short, and Turk Vincent each recorded a block, while six different Privateers had steals, with Davis grabbing two.
Sam Hines Jr. scored a career-high 30 points for SLU on 11-of-19 shooting from the floor. Hines Jr. pulled down 10 rebounds and had a double-double by halftime. Jakevion Buckley finished with 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting and nearly recorded a double-double with nine assists. Jeremy Eylzee also finished in double figures for the Lions with 13 points.
Next up for the Privateers is a trip to Beaumont, Texas for a battle against the Lamar Cardinals on Monday night. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m., and the game will air on
