Mikayla Johnson Notches First Double-Figure Scoring Output in Loss to New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The New Orleans Privateers shot 46 percent from the field in the second half but were left with too much to overcome as they fell 99-65 to the New Mexico Lobos on Wednesday afternoon at The Pit.

New Orleans began the fourth quarter by draining seven of their first 12 shots. Mikayla Johnson had a stretch of five points in 45 seconds as she notched her first double-digit scoring effort in a Privateer uniform with 10 points on the day.

New Mexico also did not make a field goal in the final 6:34 of the game as they were held to an 0-for-7 mark in that span.

The Lobos started hot by drilling 12 of their first 15 shots to open the game. Four triples were included in that stretch and when the dust settled the Lobos had built up a 23-point advantage.

New Mexico shot 70 percent from the field in the first half as they made 24-of-34 field goal attempts in the opening 20 minutes of play. Destinee Hooks and Nayli Padilla were each in double figures at the end of the first half as New Mexico carried a 65-25 lead to the locker room.

From the last minute of the first half to the opening 1:45 of the third quarter, the Privateers went on a string of five consecutive made baskets. Aaliyah Ellis hit a pair of three-pointers in that stretch. Also, Shanihya Brown had nine points in the third quarter as the two combined for 15 of the Privateers' 19 points in the penultimate period. Brown had a new career-best at New Orleans with 18 points, surpassing the previous mark of 11 she had in the season opener at Oklahoma State.

Hooks was one of four Lobos who made it to double figures in points with 18. Padilla finished the game with 15 points while Drew Jordon and Cacia Antonio each had 10 points.
