BOX SCORE
NEW ORLEANS – Despite a competitive first half, the University of New Orleans men's basketball team (2-5, 0-0 Southland) fell to No. 20 Texas Tech (5-2, 0-0 Big 12) 82-50 on Wednesday afternoon in Lubbock, Texas.
Jakevion Buckley recorded his seventh straight game in double figures as a Privateer, finishing with 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting. He also pulled down four rebounds and had three assists along with a team-high four steals.
Buckley's first 11 points came in the opening half, when the Privateers trailed by seven at intermission, 41-34. New Orleans shot 41% from the field and 33% from 3-point range in the first half before a cold second half — 30.4% from the floor and 0-for-9 from deep — doomed the Privateers.
Mathok Majok was a bright spot off the bench for New Orleans. The 7-foot-4 junior knocked down four of his five attempts from the floor, including a two-handed putback in the first half and a strong right-handed slam in the second.
Majok played a season-high 11 minutes Wednesday and scored a career-high nine points to go with a block and six rebounds — one shy of the seven he had last season against Kansas City as a member of Oral Roberts.
Christian Anderson led Texas Tech with 32 points and six made 3-pointers. JT Toppin collected a double-double with 19 points and 16 rebounds. Luke Bamgboye and Donovan Artwell each scored 13, and LeJuan Watts added 12. Bamgboye also recorded four blocks.
