Privateers Slay Knights in Homecoming Victory

NEW ORLEANS —
The University of New Orleans Privateers (1-0, 0-0 Southland) used a scintillating three-point attack to knock off the SUNO Knights (1-4, 0-0 HCBUAC) in front of a crowd of 2,691 enthusiastic fans on Saturday afternoon.
 
Coleton Benson, Enzo Boudouma, TJ Cope, and Jamal Chretien II combined to knock down five triples in the first six minutes of action giving UNO a 24-8 lead with 14:00 minutes to play. New Orleans ended a dominant first half scoring 66 points, including a buzzer-beating three from Eze Nwakamma.
 
The Privateers made 60.1% (20-of-33) shots in the first half, including 55.6% of their three-pointers (10-of-18) on their way to a 28-point advantage at the break. UNO also got to the line 25 times in the first half, converting 16 of those into points. 
 
Benson finished his first half (and game) with a team-high 18 points on 5-of-7 from beyond the arc. Cope finished with 17 points and led the Privateers with seven made baskets on Saturday afternoon. Churchill Abass was the other Privateer in double figures scoring with 13 points on 4-of-5 from the floor – he also pulled down five rebounds and had three massive shot blocks in just nine minutes of action.
 
Grant Kemp had an incredible second half with six points, three steals, three rebounds and nine assists in 18 minutes of play. The 5-foot-9 senior capped off the evening with a massive block on 7-foot former Privateer Dorian Booker to send the crowd into a frenzy.  
 
All 15 of the Privateers saw action – Irish Coquia finished with a team high 21 minutes played and had nine points and three boards. William Patterson (20), Kemp (18), Boudouma (15), Kedrick Osby (14), Cope (14), Benson (13), Jakevion Buckley (13), Chretien (16), MJ Thomas (12), Panagiotis Pagonis (12), Vieux Sanneh (11) and Nwakamma (10) all played double-digit minutes.
 
Five Knights finished in double-digits: Donte Briggs (15), Erroll Smith (14), Booker (11), Caleb Williams (11) and Jakobe Dykes (10).
