NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers hit .316 and controlled the action throughout as they defeated the Lamar Cardinals 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-20) on Saturday in the home finale at the Human Performance Center.
With the win, the Privateers stopped Lamar's winning streak at 10 matches.
New Orleans was leading 13-10 in the first set when they went on a run of four straight points to gain more separation that was keyed by
Courtney Roundtree's two kills and a pair of Lamar attack errors. The Privateers traded rallies throughout as their side out percentage was 86 percent for the remainder of the set.
The Privateers raced out to an early 6-1 lead in the second set, which was started by
Ava Kennon racking up a pair of kills. After a timeout called by the Cardinals, they cut the Privateer lead to two points but did not get any closer.
New Orleans had 16 kills to the Cardinals' 13 but the hitting percentage difference was much wider. The Privateers hit at a .308 clip in the second set while the Cardinals hit .163. That was a trend throughout the day as Lamar was limited to a .160 attack percentage.
The third set was tight throughout but the Privateers persevered to the finish line. They trailed 16-15 when
Alessandra Meoni and
Ania Anderson went on a spurt that helped the Privateers score on six of the next eight rallies. Anderson had three kills in that stretch while Meoni had two.
Lamar saved three opportunities at match point, but it was Anderson who capped off a solid day for the Privateers with her team-leading 15
th kill of the match.
The win moved New Orleans to 9-4 against Lamar all-time at home.
Maja Malinowska led the way for Lamar with 20 kills and 12 digs. Lyric Jordan finished with nine kills.
INSIDE THE BOX
Vanae Sapp finished with 10 kills and a team-best 17 digs while Meoni also recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs.
Defne Eciroglu racked up 35 assists with 11 digs and two blocks. Roundtree had seven kills and Kennon had five kills with a .385 attack percentage.
