Men's Tennis Home Winning Streak Snapped by North Alabama

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team's home winning streak was snapped at five after a 4-0 loss to the North Alabama Lions on Friday afternoon at the Privateer Tennis Center.

It was a lengthy doubles point that set the stage for the day. Julian Franzmann and David Tesic started the day with a win at flight three as they scored a 6-3 decision. The other two matches came down to tiebreakers.

Alberto Altur and Izan Orgiles won their tiebreak 7-4 to take the match at flight one. Birtan Duran and Nazar Fedoryshyn also secured their tiebreak by a 7-5 margin to give the Lions (6-2) the first point of the day.

North Alabama won at flight one, five and six to secure the points that got them the victory. Lachlan Brain won 6-4, 6-1. Altur persevered through a long first set in a 7-5, 6-0 win. Satoru Nakajima won his match 6-3, 6-2.

The other three singles matches were hotly contested. Franzmann and Orgiles were tied 5-5 in the second set after Orgiles won the first. Fedoryshyn won the first set 6-4 against Joseph Townes. The second set was 5-4 to Townes when the match was stopped.

Tesic and Duran had just gotten the second set underway after Duran won a first set tiebreak 11-9 at flight four.
