NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team was in the hunt throughout their match with the Tulane Green Wave but ultimately fell 5-2 at City Park on Friday afternoon.
The Green Wave battled out a tiebreak at flight one for the opening point of the day.
Joseph Townes and
Jay Temming stayed hot for the Privateers winning 6-4 at flight two. However, Tulane won 6-3 at flight three. Asaf Friedler and Vincent Vohl then won the tiebreak 9-7 to secure the first point.
The Green Wave went ahead 2-0 after Steven Rice secured a 6-2, 6-2 victory at flight six singles.
The rest of the matches had thin margins between them. New Orleans secured their two points from de Visser and
David Tesic who both won in three sets. They both came back from down a set to earn their wins. Tesic won 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 while de Visser also dominated the last two sets in a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 win.
"I'm really proud of the way we played today," said Coach
Burzis Kanga. "We competed so well and we were a point away from winning the doubles point. Almost every match could have gone either way. This team has great promise."
Luka Petrovic won a key tiebreak in the first set at flight one and used that to springboard to a 7-6 (7), 6-4 win. El Kordy also won a first set tiebreak at flight two on his way to a 7-6 (4), 2-6, 6-0 win.
Vohl finished off the day by coming back from a set down to win 5-7, 7-5, 6-3 in what was the longest match of the day at two hours and 49 minutes.
